A Better Way to Handle Those “Untitled Document” Files in Google Drive

Because we all have that moment when we need to write something NOW and forget to name it

Right after publishing about automating Google Drive and mentioned using dates to rename those pesky untitled documents. One of my readers,

, pointed out something important — just adding a date to “Untitled Document” isn’t really that useful. And you know what? He’s absolutely right.

Let’s be real: we should all be naming our files properly from the start. But we don’t. Sometimes you’re in a hurry, your coffee’s getting cold, and that client is waiting for a response. So you create a new doc, start typing, and… well, you know how this story ends. Another “Untitled Document” joins the graveyard of unnamed files in your Drive.

After thinking about Paul’s feedback, I realized we need something better. Not just a band-aid solution, but something that actually helps us deal with our unnamed file habits. So I came up with two different approaches, and you can pick the one that matches how you actually work (not how you wish you worked).

Option 1: The “Deal With It Later” Folder
